Caramel, milk chocolate with a lovely mild berry finish.

Notes and Notes:

This is the only natural process coffee we have on the menu. “Natural Process” means that the coffee ferments naturally, instead of through the help of the producer. The temperature of the day, and the ripe fruit sugars are the active elements in this case.

Intact coffee cherry is dried after selected picking, past the raisin stage, all the way to little woody nuggets, before they are milled to reveal the green seed inside. Natural process coffees tend to be fruity (like blueberries), boast a smooth and heavy mouthfeel, and are generally lower in perceived acidity.

“Sulladjah” is the name that was given to the highest part of Abana Farm at around 2,200 meters. This is where a community of people live and work that specific area of the farm. It is an extraordinary place that is heavily forested, has microclimates, and amazing features like a natural spring that comes straight out of the mountain side into a little water fall.

Although Sulladjah is a location, this coffee is not specifically from that area alone. It is a combination of coffees harvested from many areas of the estate.

The Full Story:

Abana / Farm

Abana translates to “our fathers” (Arabic), paying homage to deep roots, rich heritage, and origins of wild arabica coffee that is indigenous only to Ethiopia.

Abana Coffee is a family owned 300 hectare estate that began in 2009. It all started with passion for coffee and community. Located in the beautiful highlands of Ethiopia's Limmu region, the farm is home to dozens of families that live and work on site. This community and surrounding community is one of the region’s  greatest assets.

This forest estate is an ecological playground. Several species of wild animals, birds, and even reptiles call Abana home. Abana Farms works to protect their habitat and puts extra effort into conserving resources and limiting waste.
